FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Sandra And Nikkita (Ferals 605-606)

We have totally fallen in love with these two girls over the last week they have been with us. Sandra and Nikita are both huge personalities but also totally different.

Sandra, the grey stripped girl, is a sweet, soft, relaxed personality who will out of nowhere let loose a 10-second single note meow that stops everything. It is like she is singing!

Sandra also loves to be pet and will lay on her back for belly rubs as long as we can dish them out!

Nikkita, the black kitten, is a ball of nonstop movement who at a moment's notice will leap into the air and then jet across the room and back while juggling a cat toy. It's quite a sight.

She is also equally as snuggly when the mood strikes her, which is often, and she doles out serious kisses!

As they both came in pettable, handleable, and with great temperaments so I have a feeling these two will have no problem being adopted.

Here are some pictures of the two as they have adjusted to their surroundings...

FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Elvira – Meowstress Of The Night! (Feral # 604)

Hey everyone! Things are surprisingly busy here at AFAR for being so deep into Winter.

Usually, when it gets cold we only get a few TNR (trap, neuter, release) cases but so far there has been a surprising influx of kittens.

Today it is Elvira the Meowstress of the night... She isn't spooky though she is adorable!

When she came in it was apparent that she was tame and handleable so much that we could pet her and even pick her up.

She is demure but for some reason sits like a bulldog.

While she has been here Elvira has also displayed her unique love of putting her head under the faucet when we are washing cat bowls and just letting the water run until her noggin is soaked.

I think she does it because she loves to have her head toweled dry.

She's silly!

Updates to come!

FERAL CAT INCOMING! Big Mama Scarlett! (Feral # 603)

Hey everyone, here is Scarlett. She is a beautiful calico short hair who came into AFAR with her four kittens.

She did a wonderful job nursing them and raising them being that she was little more than a kitten herself.

Her kittens were so sweet and wonderful that all got adopted immediately.

But no one has adopted Scarlett.

Don't get me wrong, we love having her around but she has so much love to give and silliness to share as we all know calicos are goofy!

If you are in the area and are interested in Scarlett you can go to her page on Petfinder and fill out an application. You won't regret it!

Click HERE to go to Scarlett's page.

Here are some extra pictures so you can get a feel for what her personality is like...

Scarlett also has a grade A+ gas face! ðŸ˜¹

FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Gypsy Queen! (Feral #602)

We just got a little girl kitten into the shelter who goes by the name of Gypsy!

We were alerted to her by a concerned couple who had seen her walking around their property and feared for her safety since they lived near a road.

When our trapper arrived it turned out there was no need for traps as Gypsy nearly jumped into her car.

As cute as this sounds it is actually very sad as that means Gypsy was dumped.

She is too friendly to be a feral but too wild not to have been outside for many months.

She is loving being inside and warm but is still having problems with the other cats because she thinks there might not be enough to go around.

That will pass when Gypsy – who LOVES to eat as you can see by these pictures – realizes she will never have to worry about having to worry about food again!

If you would love to see that silly face every time you put down food contact us at Gypsy's Petfinder page HERE.

FEEDING TIME! Watch These Little Orange And White Cuties Chow Down! (2 VIDEOS)

DINNER TIME!!!!!

Hey everyone, we finally got all six kittens settled and safe.

We split them up into 2 cages by personality as four were very receptive to being pet and held and two were a little scared.

So we split them up into two friendlies in with one scardy hoping their demeanors would relax the other one.

As it so happens each group – it was not planned – consist of three boys and three girls.

As that is the case, here are two videos of feeding time in the intake room last night.

First the demure and dainty girls...

Now the messy boys...

I don't know how that one guy got that one spot of food on his head but I'm sure someone cleaned it off for him!

They are adorable!!!!!!

Getting The 6 New Kittens Settled In! (6 PICTURES)

It's a little late in the season to be dropping a litter of 6 kittens but it appears someone didn't get the message.

But it is all good because that's what we are here for.

After our team magically trapped ALL SIX kittens in ONE TRAP! – that's a first for us – it is now time to settle these little babies and fatten them up for a few weeks.

The crew consists of three boys and three girls and they are about 6-7 weeks old.

After they hit 2 pounds we can spay and neuter everyone, get them all their vaccines, and then they'll be ready for adoption.

With this bunch of beauties, I don't think we're gonna have any problem placing them as we got them early enough that they have no fear of humans and are already letting us pet and hold them.

Here are a few pictures of the brood which weren't easy to get as they are in constant motion!

Updates will be coming!

FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Success! We Trapped All Six Kittens And Their Mama! (Ferals #595-601)

Well, that went better than expected!

We trapped all six of the feral kittens and the mama in one trap.

That is a miracle!

We are going to get these guys out of the cold and into the shelter for some food and rest.

Updates and pictures to come!!!

EMERGENCY CALL! We Just Got An Urgent Call That A Mama And Her Babies Need Rescuing With This Attached Picture

Hey Everyone!

We just got in a call – and a picture – from a couple in Calverton about mama on their porch just feeding her SIX kittens.

The elderly couple who called had been feeding the mother so when she gave birth she assumed it was safe to return to their house.

While the couple has been setting out food for the brood they do not have the resources to continue so they want us to trap the whole lot!

This is a job for our expert trapper Donna Baldridge who has already begun *dummy feeding* the traps!

Dummy feeding is when the trapper puts food in the trap but does not set it so all the cats feel safe entering the trap so they can catch them all at once.

Finger's crossed!

UPDATES TO COME!

FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Mookie And Wendel! (Ferals #593-594)

Wendel in the front and Mookie's got his six!

Here are two sweet feral boys who are spending a little quality time here at AFAR.

They were trapped after the local car wash called and alerted us that they had been abandoned behind their business.

We have had them for three weeks now and they have been to the veterinarian for their vaccines and tests as well as neutering.

Now we are in the process of socializing them before putting them up for adoption.

Mookie, the striped one, is the more outgoing of the two and will give you nibbles to remind you that he needs to be pet immediately!

Wendel, the swirly patterned one, is shy but once he gets used to you is a love machine who cannot be pet enough almost like he is making up for lost time.

They are both adorable with personality for days.

Here are some other pictures of the two...

Wendel doing his best impressions of those sad, big-eyed paintings of dogs and cats that were so popular in the 70s!

Mookie practicing his sad, big-eyed look.

We will update when the boys go up for adoption!

FERAL KITTEN INCOMING! Laverne & Squirrelly! (Ferals #591-592)

Check out these two beauties we are fostering right now. They came from a bad situation with no mother to be found in a yard of homeowners who didn't want them there.

When they got here a month ago they were unable to be touched but they came around quickly and their personalities bloomed.

Laverne, the short-haired girl, is a goof plain and simple.

She loves to be sung to and rolls around on the floor showing her belly while being serenaded.

Her sister Squirrelly, on the other hand, is a DIVA!

She will sit across the room from you giving you the eye and when you go to pet her she pretends like she doesn't like it... 10 minutes later she is a puddle of purrs.

Here are some pictures of the obviously bonded pair...

If you are interested in adopting either of these to majestic beasts please visit our Petfinder page where they are listed under the names Ella and Dixie

Ames Feline Adoption & Rescue Is Opening Up Shop On Blogger After Hackers Shut Our Facebook Page Down

Hello everyone!

This is the new official site to see all the cats and kittens at Ames Feline Adoption & Rescue's shelter.

We decided to move over to a more secure spot after our Facebook page was hacked and robbed – who robs a cat rescue page???? – after 10 years of posting there.

To top it off the hacker locked us out of our page.

For months we tried to contact the staff at FB through our lawyer but they refused to speak with us and so we cannot regain control of our site.

After five long months, we decided it was time to throw in the towel and start anew.

It's heartbreaking because there were close to 600 stories about the cats and kittens we TNRed (trap, neuter, and release) and adopted out so that is all lost.

In addition, there have been close to 100 cats we have rescued since our page went down that we have not been able to post about.

So here is to fresh starts and the next 600 cats and kittens!
