CUTENESS OVERLOAD!!!! Romeo Traps Me By Rolling On My Shoes! (VIDEO)

Okay... How to explain this?

When Romeo came in, he was so high-strung and all over the place we didn't know if he was feral or just traumatized from being dumped into the colony we found him in.

It was neither.

As it turns out, Romeo was most likely abandoned and was just so happy to be back inside with people he went crazy every time you pet him or tried to leave because he didn't want you to stop petting him or to leave!

One method he used to get you to stay with him was rolling on your shoes so wildly that you were trapped and couldn't go anywhere.

It was both heartbreaking and adorable.

Here is a video of him trapping me – and my dirty shoes! – in the shelter when I was about to leave... Watch, and you'll see what I mean...

FERAL INCOMING!!!! Handsome Tuxedo Boy With A Terribly Damaged Foot Recuperating With Us (#654)

Hey all,

This is Romeo, who was trapped outside a high-class pizza joint in Riverhead last week.

There is a small colony that resides at the restaurant that the owners usually take care of, but Romeo was new to the entourage and, as such, was unfixed.

That was the least of the problems.

From what we can tell, it looks as though a car ran over the poor man's right foot and left him in rough shape.

If you look at the above picture, you can make out the discoloration of the foot he is not putting weight on.

He has been to the vet, who gave him a powerful antibiotic and examined the foot while he was under anesthesia when he was being neutered.

The wound appears to be 7-10 days old and healing already.

Romeo also seems to have a problem with his left inner eyelid, which appears to be partially closed all the time.

We will have to address that at his checkup.

After being fixed, we decided we couldn't put him back outside injured, so he is hanging out in the shelter's intake room for a few weeks until he is ready to fend for himself.

Here are a few more pics of the handsome devil!

He's a sweet boy!

FERAL INCOMING!!!! Three More Kittens Just Arrived From The Hoarder's Trailer (#651-653)

Hey, everyone.

Just heartbreaking.

These three kittens just arrived from the hoarder's trailer, where they were kept inside and without sunlight from the moment they were taken in by him.

The man is mentally ill and genuinely loves the cats but is incapable of understanding how to care for them.

It is so very sad.

The orange and stripped kittens are so feral they cannot be touched – we can't even tell if they are male or female – while the grey boy kitten is nothing but love and is starved for human contact.

It is so hard to figure out how all of these cats came from the same situation.

What is indisputable is that they are full of worms and fleas and suffer from upper respiratory infections and eye infections.

The little grey has mites in his ears that are so bad he can barely stand up due to bad balance because of an inner ear infection... That is why his head is tilted in all the pictures!

It is going to be a long road back to health for these babies.

Here are a few more pictures of the little ones...

FIERCE!

Tilted!

Updates will keep rolling in.

FERAL INCOMING!!!! Hoarder Kept Dozens Of Cats And Kittens In His Trailer With No Light Or Fresh Air (#647-650)

Hey all!

These are the cases you hate to see.

We were alerted that a mentally ill man was hoarding cats and kittens in his small trailer, which he had blackened out all the windows and kept tightly sealed all day long.

The man – who genuinely loved the cats – did not know he was hurting them, but the conditions were so bad and unsanitary that they all had upper respiratory ailments, eye infections, and were terribly underweight.

The above pictures were taken almost two weeks after the cats arrived here with us giving them constant antibiotics (Clavamox), Terramycin for their eyes, and fleas meds.

You can imagine the shape they were in when they got here.

There are at least 12 more that are either headed here or to foster homes.

These little ones are very feral and hate being handled... This is going to be a tough socialization that could take months.

Here are a few more pictures of the babies as they are getting used to being in the intake room with access to sunlight and fresh air...

We are receiving 3 more of these poor kittens today so updates to come.

FERAL UPDATE!!!! BIG BOI Is On The Mend!!!! (VIDEO)

BIG BOI eating a Squeeze Up! YAY!

Hey all!

This BIG BOI was in rough shape when he first got here, but slowly and surely, he's getting better.

He has the fighting spirit of a full-grown tiger and a head that is just about as big.

We can tell he's on the mend because his appetite has picked up, and he's even demanding tubes of "squeeze-ups" for lunch.

To give you an idea of just what we're dealing with here, I filmed myself giving him the treat, and he even took a swing at me... Made me so happy!

If BOG BOI is gonna go back to the colony and rule the roost like he did, he's going to have to be at his fighting weight, and if he keeps eating like this, that shouldn't be too long!

Without further ado, here is "Lunchtime With BIG BOI!"...

FERAL INCOMING!!!! Colony's BIG BOI Was Attacked By A Predator And Almost Died (#646)

Hey all!

This BIG man is the top dog – as it were – of a large feral colony a couple of miles outside of Riverhead, New York.

The colony is taken care of by a group of kind people from around the neighborhood, and we have done several TNRs for them over the years.

Last week we got a call that the leader of the colony was attacked, possibly by a neighborhood dog, fox, or coyote, and was in bad shape.

When we trapped him he was close to death.

His ears had been ripped off, and while his open wounds weren't overwhelming, it was the internal damage to his organs, including his bladder, that was scary.

He was sedated and catheterized, and given intravenous fluids until he stabilized.

He miraculously pulled through – because he's a really tough guy - and is now on the mend in our shelter until he is well enough to go home and rule the roost once again.

We have decided to call him BIG BOI – yes, all cap locked – because he has the most enormous, most magnificent head we have EVER seen!

Updates to come.
